Production forecasting and individual sales targets
Forecast the volumes to produce by product and by delivery month, and track a sales target per salesperson, where Odoo only knows team targets.
The need
Voltra Lighting designs and distributes rechargeable cordless table lamps for high-end hotels and restaurants. Production is launched in advance, so the question that comes up every month is easy to ask and hard to tool: how much of each product should we produce, and for which delivery month?
At the same time, the sales team needed individual targets, not a global team target that means nothing to anyone.
Forecasting by delivery month requires knowing the commitment date line by line. Odoo holds it at the level of the whole order.
What Odoo does out of the box, and where it stops
The commitment date lives at the order level
As long as this date stays global, you cannot spread the volumes of a single order over several delivery months, and the forecast is wrong as soon as an order is staggered.
Sales targets only exist at the team level
As is, there is no way to tell a salesperson where they stand against their own target, or to compare two salespeople over the same period.
What we developed
Commitment date moved down to the line
This is the technical prerequisite. Without it, no forecast by delivery month is reliable once an order has several due dates.
Forecast by product and by month
Expected volumes are aggregated by product and by delivery month, which directly provides the basis for launching production.
Individual sales targets
Built on Odoo's challenges mechanism, to get a target per salesperson without building a parallel reporting tool.
These developments are part of ongoing support carried out on three parallel workstreams: the sales process, data and inventory, then KPIs and summaries. Warranty replacements, in particular, are linked to their original order, which finally makes after-sales service costs readable.
What it looks like
Do you launch production in advance?
Forecasting rarely starts with a dashboard. It starts with the data missing at the right level, and that is almost always a date.
