Odoo 19 vs SAP Business One
SAP Business One has a big name, and it lives up to it: the finance side is solid, the product is proven. But it's an ERP from another era: opaque licensing, annual maintenance fees, a Windows client, and anything missing has to be bought from a third-party vendor.
Why SMEs look beyond SAP Business One
Three realities you discover after signing, rarely before.
The price isn't published anywhere
SAP publishes no price list: everything goes through a reseller, who sets the price. Expect about €2,700 per professional license up front, plus 18 to 20% in maintenance every year, plus the server, plus the implementation days. Comparing offers becomes a project in itself.
The ecosystem of must-have add-ons
The core product runs out quickly: point of sale, e-commerce, advanced warehouse picking, or even more modern screens all require paid third-party modules. Each add-on has its own vendor, its own license and its own update cycle, and you're the one holding it all together.
A dated experience
The legacy client is a Windows application installed one workstation at a time. The web client is improving but doesn't cover everything. Meanwhile, your teams use modern tools everywhere else, and they make the comparison every day.
The technical verdict
A visual comparison of out-of-the-box capabilities, with no custom development or third-party modules.

9. What it really costs
SAP doesn't publish its prices, so here are the typical ranges observed for ten users.
SAP Business One
What the market sees, reseller by reseller.
- Professional license: about €2,700 per user up front
- Annual maintenance: 18 to 20% of the license price, every year
- Or in the cloud: license from €91, €90 to €200 per user all-in
- Indirect access via API or a third-party system: dedicated licenses, which SAP charges at double the price
- Server and HANA or SQL Server database to host
- Third-party add-ons: POS, e-commerce, warehouse mobility, planning
- Implementation by a reseller, often several dozen days
Odoo 19 Enterprise
The price is on Odoo's website, ours is on the quote.
- All apps included in the same subscription
- POS, e-commerce, website, marketing, quality, maintenance (CMMS) included
- Hosting on Odoo.sh or with us, backups included
- No maintenance fee tied to the number of licenses
- Implementation billed at actual cost, audit cost deducted from the project
Subscribe through a partner rather than directly
Hors du Commun, Odoo integrator in Lyon, is an official Odoo partner. Going through us costs you nothing extra, and gives you three things a direct subscription doesn't.
60-day trial instead of 15
We extend your test database ourselves, so you can try the software over a real monthly cycle, month-end close included, instead of skimming through a demo.
3 to 10% off the license
On average, depending on your commitment. We know what to negotiate, and with whom at Odoo.
A free user for your accountant
We work with accounting firms that are Odoo partners, or negotiate access for your current firm.

Your questions, our answers
The questions business owners running SAP Business One ask us.
It's a product SAP acquired in 2002, designed for SMEs, with no technical link to S/4HANA. Odoo now serves several million users and covers a broader functional scope than Business One in sales, web and service. The brand is reassuring, but the actual scope has to be compared line by line, which is what this page is for.
Business One has robust, proven finance. Odoo is on par for day-to-day French accounting, and ahead on everything around it: bank synchronization, AI bill reading, e-filed VAT returns, built-in e-invoicing. Your accountant works in it directly, with no extra license.
POS, warehouse mobility, planning, customer portal: what you buy as an add-on with SAP Business One is usually an included app in Odoo. We list your add-ons and their annual cost during the audit, license and maintenance included. That's often where the math tips.
There's no public price list: each reseller sets its own. Observed ranges are around €2,700 per license up front plus 18 to 20% in annual maintenance, or roughly €90 to €230 per user per month in the cloud, before add-ons and infrastructure. The Odoo subscription is public and includes all apps.
Business One data sits in SQL Server or HANA, fully readable. We migrate customers, suppliers, items, bills of materials, open items and accounting history, then check every balance against your trial balances. The switchover happens on a closing date, never on the fly.
A Business One development is written against SAP's proprietary SDK and can't be ported. What matters is what it does: in Odoo, many of these rules can be rebuilt through configuration or automation, and the rest in Python, with a much larger pool of developers.
Multi-warehouse, lots, serial numbers, valuation: the foundation is equivalent. Barcode picking, carrier connectors and advanced flow strategies, often paid add-ons with B1, are included in Odoo. We run your real logistics scenarios on a test database before any decision is made.
SAP has been registered as an approved platform since January 2026, and we don't dispute that. But for Business One, the full chain requires an additional subscription to SAP Document and Reporting Compliance, or the use of a partner platform: nothing is included in your B1 license. Odoo has also been an approved platform since April 2026, and it's included in the subscription.
SAP's public strategy favors S/4HANA Cloud and the offerings around it. Business One is still maintained, but its pace of innovation doesn't compare with that of a platform that ships a major version every year. It's a factor in the decision, not an emergency.
Odoo.sh with the vendor, our managed hosting in France, or your own server: all three are possible, and your PostgreSQL database can always be downloaded in full. You're leaving a closed ERP behind, not swapping it for hosting lock-in.
A scope covering accounting, sales, purchasing and inventory typically takes three to six months to migrate, depending on how much history you bring over and which add-ons need replacing. We pin down the exact scope during the audit, with a firm quote for each phase.
We set up a test database with your items, your customers and your real scenarios: a complete sale, a restock, a closing. You compare on the evidence, and the decision comes afterward, never before.
Let's discuss your project
Bring your SAP contract and the list of your add-ons: we'll work out the full cost of both scenarios over three years, data migration included. The audit cost is deducted from the project.
