Odoo 19 vs PrestaShop
PrestaShop is an excellent online store platform: open source and French-made. But it stops at the order. Real stock levels, purchasing, accounting and customer service live elsewhere, in modules you have to buy, maintain and keep working together.
Why PrestaShop merchants call us
Three situations that come up almost every time.
The module pile-up
A mature PrestaShop store rarely runs on fewer than thirty paid modules. Each one has its own vendor, its own update schedule and its own logic. The day two of them clash, nobody is responsible for the whole thing, and you are the one who has to sort it out.
The upgrade wall
Moving from 1.6 to 1.7, then to 8 and 9, breaks themes and some of the modules. Many stores stay stuck on an old version because upgrading costs as much as a rebuild. The platform then becomes a security risk as much as a drag on the business.
Constant double entry
Orders are in PrestaShop, stock in a spreadsheet, invoices in accounting software, purchases in the inbox. Every piece of information is entered two or three times, and nobody knows which version is the right one.
The technical verdict
A visual comparison of built-in capabilities, with no custom development and no third-party modules.

10. What it really costs
PrestaShop's sticker price is zero. The real price never is. Here is what we see on a live store.
PrestaShop: the full cost
What an active store actually pays for.
- Managed production hosting, typically €50 to €200 per month
- Paid modules, an observed range of €60 to €400 each
- Theme and design integration, several thousand euros
- Technical maintenance and security updates
- Major version upgrade, with a budget close to a rebuild
- And accounting, purchasing and after-sales still have to be paid for elsewhere
Odoo 19 Enterprise

- eCommerce, Website and Point of Sale included
- Sales, Purchase, Inventory, Accounting, CRM, Helpdesk included
- Hosting, backups and test environments on Odoo.sh

Your questions, our answers
What PrestaShop merchants ask us before making the move.
We always work out the full cost of the existing store: hosting, modules, maintenance, time spent re-entering data elsewhere, and a provision for the next version upgrade. On the stores we audit, the total is almost always higher than an Odoo subscription that also covers accounting, purchasing and after-sales.
If your store converts well and you like your theme, we keep PrestaShop as the storefront and connect Odoo behind it to run the business. Orders, customers and products flow between them automatically. It's the right choice when the problem lies downstream of the order, not on the website itself.
PrestaShop offers a much wider choice of themes and modules. On the other hand, an order placed in Odoo updates stock, creates the invoice, posts the journal entry and triggers picking without a single connector. That end-to-end flow is what makes the difference day to day.
Advanced stock management was removed from the PrestaShop core in version 1.7. Stores that relied on it either stayed stuck on 1.6, switched to a third-party module, or moved stock management off the website. Odoo handles warehouses, locations, lots and valuation out of the box.
We migrate products, variants, categories, customers, addresses, orders and invoices directly from the MySQL database. The real work is cleaning up variants and pricing rules. Every product is checked against your master file before the switchover.
Modules for invoicing, returns, loyalty, abandoned cart reminders, carrier connections or dashboards cover features that are included in Odoo. We identify their annual cost during the audit, and we tell you frankly which ones have no equivalent.
We build a complete mapping between old and new URLs, including category pages and indexed filters, and we set up permanent redirects. We then monitor indexing over the following weeks.
A PrestaShop plugin is written in PHP for its own framework. What we carry over is what it does: the calculation rule, the condition, the document it produces. In Odoo, many of these rules can be rebuilt without development, through configuration or automation.
PrestaShop produces a PDF invoice, which will no longer be enough. E-invoicing requires a structured format and transmission through an approved platform. Odoo handles Factur-X (the Franco-German e-invoice format) and the transmission, on the same database as the store.
Odoo's core is open, your PostgreSQL database can be downloaded in full, and you can host it wherever you want, including with us. You remain the owner of your data and your custom developments.
A store with a clean catalog and no particular custom development can be moved over in a few weeks. A catalog with complex variants, pricing rules piled up over ten years or a dozen in-house plugins will make the project significantly longer. We quote it after the audit, never before.
We set up the store on a test database with your real products and your real orders. You run your own ordering, picking and invoicing scenarios. The switchover only happens once you have approved those scenarios, never on our word alone.
Let's talk about your project
We start by working out what your PrestaShop store really costs you, including modules and time spent re-entering data. Depending on the result, we'll suggest connecting the two tools or bringing everything together. The audit fee is credited toward the project.
